Vision USA Volunteers in Service in Our Nation (VISION) USA is a non-profit, tax-exempt charity developed by members of the American Optometric Association. Its sole purpose is to provide basic eye health and vision care services, without charge, to individuals who have no other means of obtaining care.
InfantSEE™ is a public health program designed to ensure that eye and vision care becomes an integral part of infant wellness care to improve a child's quality of life. Under this program, which will be available in Summer 2005, our member optometrists will provide a comprehensive infant eye assessment within the first year of life as a no cost public health service.

The Children's Identification and Location Database is a nationwide network and registry, utilizing iris recognition biometric technology provided and supported by The Child Project™, to quickly and positively identify missing children. More about Iris scanning
What is Iris Scanning? Iris scanning uses recognition biometric technology to capture a high resolution digital photograph of an individual’s iris. The technology can tell the difference between twins or even an individual’s right and left eye. Iris scanning is not harmful to childrens’ eyes.
What happens to the scan? The scan is downloaded into The Children’s Identification & Location Database (CHILD) Project by your local sheriff or optometrist. The CHILD Project is a secure nationwide network and registry, maintained by the Nation’s Missing Children Organization that enables Sheriff’s Offices and social service agencies across the nation to locate and positively identify missing children. The form you filled out today is shredded after it is input in the system so that your information remains secure.
Why is Iris Scanning valuable in helping identify children? The eyes never lie. As children grow, their physical appearances change – but not their irises. Iris biometric recognition technology is the fastest and most accurate identification method available today and because the iris does not change, the scan never has to be updated. Over 2,000 children are reported missing everyday. Younger children can’t always provide law enforcement officials or social service agencies with all the information needed to positively identify them. Iris scanning can help locate and positively identify children in seconds and reunite families quickly.
Who is involved in Iris Scanning? The Oklahoma Association of Optometric Physicians and its 500 members are partnering with the Oklahoma Sheriff’s Association and local Sheriff’s offices to bring free iris scanning to every county in Oklahoma. Not only are we offering this service to parents of young children but we are also beginning to provide iris scanning for Alzheimer’s patients. We believe this new technology will provide an innovative way to identify lost or missing children and adults and bring them home safely.
